Uninspired

February 27th, 2005

… and I know why. I just can’t do anything about it.

I’ve been mulling around, trying to decide exactly what it is I want to do; with this site, with the band, with my life.

Pffft. Someday.

I’ve learned…

February 24th, 2005

I’ve learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in…

I’ve learned that one good turn gets most of the blankets.

I’ve learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just jackasses.

I’ve learned that it takes years to build up trust, and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.

I’ve learned that whatever hits the fan will not be evenly distributed.

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think.

I’ve learned that depression is merely anger without enthusiasm.

I’ve learned that it is not what you wear; it is how you take it off.

I’ve learned to not sweat the petty things, and not pet the sweaty things.

I’ve learned age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

I’ve learned that I don’t suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

I’ve learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities.

I’ve learned that artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

I’ve learned that 99% of the time when something isn’t working in your house, one of your kids did it.

I’ve learned that there is a fine line between genius and insanity.

I’ve learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away. And the real pains in the ass are permanent.

What some would do for love…

February 15th, 2005

… most take for granted

I‘ll be the first to admit that I’m one of those cynics that scoff at Valentine’s Day. Sometimes, though, something happens that can almost inspire you to tears.

I knew Feb. 14 sucked…

February 15th, 2005

But this is ridiculous

As I write this, between 7-12 people have been reported dead from a series of bombings in Makati, Davao, and General Santos allegedly perpetuated by the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. Calling it their ‘Valentine’s Gift’ to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Abu Sayyaf spokesperson Abu Solaiman announced over dzBB that the ‘defenders of Islam’ have struck again.

I was just wondering, though; who, exactly, are they defending Islam from? Because as I see it, no one has done more damage to Islam than these so-called ‘defenders of the faith’.

Their grievances may be real, but the settlement of Mindanao by the Christian majority (thereby displacing the Muslims and Lumads) was never an attack on the Islamic faith. And while there was indeed discrimination, it was never religious but political. Raising the conflict to the level of a ‘holy war’ is nothing more than a cheap gimmik by the Abu Sayyaf to get more funding from the Arab nations, and invoking the name of Allah does nothing to legitimize them - only stain the name of Allah.

Yet Another Valentine Post

If you’ve been here the last few days, you might’ve noticed the daily Bible quotes pointing sequential verses from 1 Corinthians 13. If you missed it, here’s the link, and the passage:

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not selfseeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Sigh.

A Valentine Post

February 14th, 2005

Last year, I spent Valentines day (and night) getting drunk with two of my best friends, Allan and Czarelle. I woke up with a nasty hangover, ready to hurl every last drop of alcohol I’d sinfully imbibed the night before. Damn that was fun.

Again?!?

February 12th, 2005

Not that you’d care, but I sprained my ankle. Again. The last few weeks, I feel like I’ve stepped into a place, just beyond the borders of the imagination… I barrel down a long dark highway, and there’s a signpost up ahead that says: the Twilight Zone.

I can only wish it’s a dream sequence.

Drive

February 8th, 2005

who’s gonna tell you when
it’s too late
who’s gonna tell you things
aren’t so great
you can’t go on
thinking nothing’s wrong
who’s gonna drive you home tonight

who’s gonna pick you up
when you fall
who’s gonna hang it up
when you call
who’s gonna pay attention
to your dreams
who’s gonna plug their ears
when you scream

you can’t go on
thinking nothing’s wrong
who’s gonna drive you home tonight

who’s gonna hold you down
when you shake
who’s gonna come around
when you break

Million Dollar Baby

February 6th, 2005

Damn this is a good movie. It won’t make you think much, and don’t expect to be moved; there are no underlying themes, no profound lessons or morals, and you won’t feel good after watching it. But it’s a damn good movie.

There is so much depth to the characters, and I can’t tell it better than this review.

Definitely an A for me.
