You can’t make this stuff up

July 18th, 2007

Syd just posted one of our more inane YM conversations in his Multiply. Here’s an excerpt:

The Sydman: Dude anyway, ang pH scale ng Skyflakes is 3.87 - 1.3 less than the appropriate testing grounds for a chocolate powder. I don’t know about you pero I think mali ang mga scientists na nagsabi niyan.

jorgecosgayon: WTF!?! May mali ka sa assumption mo e. Ina-assume mo na Ovaltine is chocolate powder. Hindi! Powdered pawis ng Negro ang Ovaltine na hinaluan ng kopra! And for powdered sweat with kopra, 3.87 is sufficient!

Unfortunately, I forgot what substance we were abusing at the time, so I guess you’ll just have to discuss it with your local runner. Err. What?

A woman drove me to drink and I never even had the courtesy to thank her.

Blogger’s Directory (0)

July 13th, 2007

Because no, bloggers can never get enough of them: here’s a new one: the Blogger’s Directory. What I find most intruiging is that the domain name was only registered this July. Nobody thought of that name before? Lucky find.

Let’s Get Party!

July 13th, 2007

Jeepney Joyride The Ska band from hell — that’s Jeepney Joyride folks — has released their second album, Let’s Get Party, a 14-track masterpiece of humor and good skankin’ fun, and is out now under Sony BMG on all major Odyssey and Music One record bars, with an official album launch on August 29 at the new Club Dredd in Eastwood, Libis.

I was lucky enough to snag a copy the night it was released last Friday at the Purple Haze Bar in Tomas Morato, and had it autographed by most of the band members. My favorite track is Paano kung ‘di ka na matawa?, a poignant (but not emo-ish, thank goodness) song about insecurity, and Lab, asan ka na?, an innuendo-filled laugh-a-minute little ditty.

You can stop wondering if the album can capture the sheer energy of the band’s live performances, which is, I daresay, among the best in the business. Truth is, of course it can’t. Joyride, like grub worms, are best served live. And I can’t believe I just compared one of my most favorite bands to a bunch of foul pests. But there you go. The album is good — “very” would’nt even begin to do it justice — but nothing beats their live performances.

You can catch Joyride, as well as FMD (that’s us  ), at Purple Haze every first Friday of the month as part of Big TT (Big Time Tado) productions, which is run by the man himself, Tado. Or as I call him, Arvin. Yes, mahilig ako mag pakapal mukha. Also on these locations:

July 13 Fri 9pm - One Love Bar, Sucat, Pque
July 14 Sat 9pm - Sharky’s Bar, Timog Ave, QC (Kasama kami, ang FMD ulit!!! )
July 14 Sat - Mapua, Intramuros, Mla (Kasama kami, ang FMD ulit!!! )
July 28 - Vida de Malate

Shameless plug aside, if there’s one album you’re gonna buy this year, this has got to be it. Seriously. This, and The Chongkey’s upcoming album. Okay, so that’s two. But still. You gotta buy this album. You won’t regret it. Ika nga ni Ramon Bautista: it’s a laht of fahhhhn.

Remembering In Diss Corner

July 9th, 2007

Sanctify, sanctify the ninth of July
The jam, the riff, for naught
I know of no reason why the girl, lost like the Key
should ever be forgot.

In some ways, three years is such along time, but in others, it is blissfully short. Three years ago today, Lost Key played it’s first gig at Mayric’s for the production In Diss Corner, and I met the muse to match my music. Three years later, Lost Key has long died a gruesome death, and the muse has been lost beyond the seas. Has it been that long? No, it’s been that short.

You’ve never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable… known someone that could level you with her eyes… feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. ~ Good Will Hunting
