It sounds like an oxymoron, “happy death”. Kind of like “military intelligence”, “business ethics”, or “congressional action”. These aren’t exactly the words you’d use together without being sarcastic. But that’s me; the deaths of people close to me will always be tragic, untimely, and unnecessary — it’s not something I can really be rational about.
Doesn’t stop me from appreciating the quiet dignity others can face it with, though. The PDI carried this article last July 10, 2009; it’s a prayer by former President Corazon C. Aquino:
Almighty God, most merciful Father
You alone know the time
You alone know the hour
You alone know the moment
When I shall breathe my last. So, remind me each day,
most loving Father
To be the best that I can be.
To be humble, to be kind,
To be patient, to be true.
To embrace what is good,
To reject what is evil,
To adore only You.When the final moment does come
Let not my loved ones grieve for long.
Let them comfort each other
And let them know
how much happiness
They brought into my life.
Let them pray for me,
As I will continue to pray for them,
Hoping that they will always pray
for each other.Let them know that they made possible
Whatever good I offered to our world.
And let them realize that our separation
Is just for a short while
As we prepare for our reunion in eternity. Our Father in heaven,
You alone are my hope.
You alone are my salvation.
Thank you for your unconditional love, Amen.Related posts:

cory aquino is the best among the rest of the president of the world
Almost every day I see on TV pictures of motorists dying in vehicular accidents, suspected hold-uppers shot dead by the police, women raped and strangled or stabbed to death, family members burglarized and killed by their attackers, etc. I suppose those are people who died unhappy, untimely, ghastly, violent deaths. I don’t like to go the way they did.
I want to die a neat death with dignity and serenity. Alone or surrounded by my loved ones, I want to breathe my last in my deathbed, at peace with my fellow human beings and my God; content and grateful for the earthly life I’ve enjoyed, and ready with great expectations for eternal life and unending peace with my Creator. That would be for me a happy death. I wish you the same.
Thank you for making the Prayer of President Cory available on this site. I just downloaded it and printed it for my 83-year old mother.
God bless you.
Our Former President Corazon Aquino was the great president among the rest…
Madam Cory, May you rest in peace..
You will be always in our hearts..
We love you and we will miss you…
we love so mush president aquino.
President Tita Cory had died but her shoots (like the banana shoots) will grow anywhere, everywhere were true justice & freedom had been deprieved not only in our beloved Philippines but in our beloved planet we call earth.
We should thank the lord that he gave a us her daughter Mrs. Corazon Aquino. Who is our shield when we encounter battle, she fight for our mother earth, she fight for the rights of each Filipino, she fight for our freedom thats why we had the Democracy, and she want us to know about the wonders of God. Inspite of all the circumstances she let us see that she is always strong, but God don;t want to see her battling for pain. He want our mother to rest in His arms. May you rest in peace! God bless
