I honest-to-gosh really did a double take. Then I had to read the original article just to be sure. Because just when I didn’t think they could sink any lower, the Marcoses do something – as if just to prove – that they are, quite simply, amazing, having mastered the art of shocking and disappointing me. Despite the fact that this is precisely the kind of thing I should have known to expect by now.
For those of you who didn’t click on the links, Ilocos Norte Governor Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. yesterday said the Marcoses were the victims of human rights abuse because the government continued to deny his father the right to a hero’s burial1.
Further: “If there is a president that should be buried [at the Libingan ng mga Bayani] it is him because he was president for the longest time,” the young Marcos said in an interview at the Fort Ilocandia Resort and Casino in Laoag City where a tourism convention was held2.
He added: “Talk about human rights violations. We are the ones whose rights have been violated and continue to be violated. But that is the way politics operates in this country. It is highly personalized; it is not rooted in common sense or in service to the people.”3
Is this where I should insert the “and pigs flew out my ass” line now? Honestly.I mean, he really said these things, I kid you not. If there’s anything that I know, the best reason Marcos isn’t a hero is precisely because he was President for the longest time – at the cost of people’s lives, billions of pesos, and our freedom. For Bongbong to even think that life’s been unfair to him and is family… well, it’s in very bad taste, to say the least.
Besides, how can the Marcoses be victims of human rights abuse when they’re a subspecies of the excrement produced by the rotting bacteria of scum-dwellers and assorted vermin. Heck, even if I was in the habit of eating pieces of shit for breakfast , I’d still retch.
Ok, so that last paragraph was in very bad taste (pun intended).
I should stop expecting them to be apologetic or contrite in any way. After all, the Marcos family’s continued existence and lifestyle depends on their continued denial of the sins of Makoy. Decency would be too much to ask from a family that has bled us dry in the past.
