But this is ridiculous
As I write this, between 7-12 people have been reported dead from a series of bombings in Makati, Davao, and General Santos allegedly perpetuated by the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic terrorist group Abu Sayyaf. Calling it their ‘Valentine’s Gift’ to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Abu Sayyaf spokesperson Abu Solaiman announced over dzBB that the ‘defenders of Islam’ have struck again.
I was just wondering, though; who, exactly, are they defending Islam from? Because as I see it, no one has done more damage to Islam than these so-called ‘defenders of the faith’.
Their grievances may be real, but the settlement of Mindanao by the Christian majority (thereby displacing the Muslims and Lumads) was never an attack on the Islamic faith. And while there was indeed discrimination, it was never religious but political. Raising the conflict to the level of a ‘holy war’ is nothing more than a cheap gimmik by the Abu Sayyaf to get more funding from the Arab nations, and invoking the name of Allah does nothing to legitimize them – only stain the name of Allah.
