This post represents my personal opinion; sometimes it makes sense, often not. I reserve the right to edit/delete offensive comments, but I wouldn't mind a couple of politically incorrect statements here and there.
I remember watching some feel-good movie - doesn’t matter which one, they’re all the same. You know, the kind that ends with happily ever after. The kind everybody wants to happen to them. So, anyway, I was watching this piece of crap, because, well, I was feeling poignant and melancholy at the time, and, ironically, the whole concept struck me as somewhat depressing, and it had nothing to do with my mood. No, I just saw through the underlying plot of these movies… they all hinge on the concept of fate.
On the concept of being ‘meant’ to be. The ‘against all odds’ theme doesn’t depict a victory because of perseverance, but almost despite it. Look who loses: it’s actually the guy who tries the hardest, the guy who loves the most, the guy who would actually stoop to the lowest depths of depravity for this one thing that he desperately craves. The bad guy, or the other guy; he does it all. He’s mean; he sacrifices his morality, to get to a certain point with a certain girl. You gotta respect that. That takes balls. But he loses anyway. Why?
Because it’s not about trying hard or doing everything you can, it’s because he wasn’t meant to win, he wasn’t meant to get the girl. So he has to reform, to be the bigger man by accepting his fate, he has to live with the fact that, well, it wasn’t meant to be. It’s not about him being good enough, or smart enough, he just wasn’t ‘the one’ fate decided would win. He was never good enough in the first place.
Funny how it’s so close to reality, isn’t it? Funny, in a Comedian-esque kind of way. After all, when you figure out what a a joke everything is, being (a) Comedian’s the only thing that makes sense.
This has got to be one of the most misguided analyses on the Philippine situation I’ve ever read. I can’t comment; I’ve spent two days trying to read through the whole thing, but I need to step out every once in a while to hyperventilate.
Amazing what passes for a feature article these days. color me skeptical but I really find it hard to believe that people actually do go up to Inquirer columnist and local fashion junkie Tim Yap and ask him (her?) how he can “maintain (his) Paris Hilton-esque locks.” I just can’t relate to people these days.
Some good news, I think. The Communist Party of the Philippines’ armed wing, the New People’s Army, announced a temporary cessation of offensives against the government this holiday season. Here’s a thought: since GMA’s fond of switching the dates of holidays to better suit the work week, why not extend Christmas? Say, indefinitely? How’s that for a plan?
Hah.
I really hope not. Sidelined in the Heat’s last game because of a bruised left calf, the Big Diesel might also sit out their next game against Sacramento, just to be sure, just so he’ll be ready for his Christmas day showdown with Kobe.
I’ll be going home (at last!) on the 24th, and may not touch another computer until the new year. Till then
