PPope John Paul II, the man who led the Catholic church for a generation with vision, drive and charisma, died Saturday, bringing an end to his prolonged
personal suffering and to a historic era for the world. KansasCity.com
“We all feel like orphans this evening,†Undersecretary of State Archbishop Leonardo Sandri told the crowd of 70,000 that gathered in St. Peter’s Square below the pope’s still-lighted apartment windows. ShelbyStar.com
My words fall short of describing the deep sadness that I feel at this great man’s passing. He was an icon, a symbol for what the papacy stood for. Say what you will about the Catholic organization and dogma, Karol Joseph Wojtyla was a good man who stood for peace, love and God. He carried with him an air of, well, “holiness” for lack of a better word, that no priest or pastor or imam I know could ever hope to match. Besieged by scandals the world over, the one shining light the Roman Catholic Church had was its leader, and now he is with God.
